Numbers 11 records the story of how the Israelites complained about only having manna to eat. God accepts to answer their cries by providing meat. Given the number of people to be fed, and the quantity of meat God said he would provide, Moses questions how this will happen. Be reminded that Moses was talking to the same God who had already been supernaturally providing manna from heaven. The response in Numbers 11:23 says: And the Lord said to Moses, “Has the Lord’s arm been shortened? Now you shall see whether what I say will happen to you or not” (NKJV).
In the question “Has the Lord’s arm been shortened”, it was as if God was asking, “do you not know that I am the God in whom there is no limit?” Simply put: Moses, do you know me?
This reminds me of the times that I have been asked to write a character reference on behalf of someone. As a rule, I write a character reference for someone only when I know their character based on my personal experiences with them. That way, if I write that the person is reliable, I am able to share from experience how I know them to be reliable.
Consider for a moment what you have come to know about God based on time you have spent reading and studying scriptures or sitting in God’s presence. If you were asked to list those things on a piece of paper, what would you write? Could you say that:
I know God is Holy
1 Samuel 2:2 states: No one is holy like the Lord, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God (NKJV).
I know God is Faithful
Deuteronomy 7:9 states: Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments (NKJV).
I know God is Merciful
Psalm 145:8 states: The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy (NKJV).
I know God is Good
Psalm 34:8 states: Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! (NKJV).
Growing in the knowledge of God should be central to every believer’s spiritual walk. As John 17:3 states: And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent (NKJV).
There are two things you should know about growing in God. First, while we are on this earth, we will never come to know everything about God. As a result, believers must see growing in the knowledge of God as a continuous journey. A path we stay on daily. And second, growing in the knowledge of God will cost you something. I have learned that even things I consider to be good could be spiritually harmful if they leave little or no time for me to pursue God. Even things I consider to be good could be spiritually harmful if they keep me away from spending time in God’s presence so that I may be transformed by Him. As 2 Corinthians 3:18 states: So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image (NLT).

He once impressed upon me, that if we want to know God, read His Word.
All praise to our loving Father, who has made it possible for us to know Him through His Word, spending time with Him, and experiences He grants in our lives.
Hi Joan, reading and studying God’s Word is essential. So let us continue growing in God through daily reading and studying the scriptures. Amen!
