Psalm 33:13-14 (ESV):
13 The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man;
14 from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth,
The above verses bring us face to face with the reality that when God looks down from heaven at humanity, no one is excluded from God’s glance. God sees everyone.
As we consider that God sees everything we do, let it be clear that God is not watching over us with the sole intent to punish us. Indeed, God does discipline us. Hebrews 12:5-6 (NKJV) tells us: And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”
God is a loving Father. So even when God disciplines us, as Hebrews 12:5-6 tells us, this discipline is from a place of love. And it is for our own good – so that we may grow and mature in righteousness and holiness.
There is comfort in knowing that God watches over us. The God who is omnipresent – the God who is everywhere all at the same time – watches over us to guide us. Isaiah 30:21 (NIV) states: Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
There is security in knowing that God watches over us. The God who is omnipresent – the God who is everywhere all at the same time – watches over us to protect us from dangers, whether seen or unseen. As 2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NIV) tells us: But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.
Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV) states: For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
We must know and accept the truth that God loves us with an everlasting love. Even when we say, do, or behave in ways that do not please or glorify God, God does not withhold His love from us. God’s love for us remains constant.
As we go about our day, may we honor the privilege of having God’s presence with us at all times. May we honor the privilege of having God’s guidance and protection at all times. May we honor the privilege of having God’s love at all times.
Psalm 145:3 (NIV) states: Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.
