Psalm 147:5 (NKJV)
Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.
From the above verse, we see that God’s understanding is described as infinite. This means that God’s understanding is so vast that it cannot even be measured. We are, however, the complete opposite. Our knowledge is limited. This is the reason why as we live our lives as believers, we must resist the urge to make decisions based on worldly knowledge or what we can see with our natural eyes. We must seek God’s understanding – God’s wisdom and God’s knowledge – at all times. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) tells us: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
It is easy to trust God when our prayers are answered in a relatively short space of time. The challenge comes when we have been waiting for God to move and days are turning into weeks, and weeks into months, and still no answer. To further challenge us, we have an enemy. God’s Word tells us in 1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV): Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. The enemy wants nothing more than for us to become impatient because we do not see evidence of God being at work in the challenge we face. The enemy wants nothing more than for us to abandon hope in God and take matters into our own hands.
So, what do you do when you trust God but you are becoming weary from the wait for an answer to your prayers? Psalm 27:14 (NKJV) tells us: Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! Regardless of how long the wait, we must continue waiting on God. God knows everything. And this includes how and when our challenges will come to an end. God also knows the ways in which are challenges can be used to mature us spiritually as we use the waiting period to discover what God is trying to teach us. Thankfully, we do not have to navigate this on our own.
Among the many benefits of having the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit empowers us to persevere in our faith. The Holy Spirit empowers us so that we do not lose sight of the goodness and faithfulness of God. But the empowerment of the Holy Spirit does not stop there. The Holy Spirit’s empowerment can also help us to live in such a high level of confident faith in God that, even in the midst of our challenges, we can allow God to work through us so that we can encourage others to come to know for themselves that God is faithful.
Hebrews 10:23 (NKJV) states: Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
