Sometimes the challenges of life can be so painful that it has the potential to cloud our thoughts about who God is. But as believers we must stand strong against anything that comes to cloud our thoughts about who God is. And who we are in Him.
When you think your problem is too big for God, remember this:
- in Luke 18:27 (NKJV) Jesus says: “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” And in Psalm 24:1-2 (NKJV) it states: The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters.
When you think God is not listening to your prayers, remember this:
- 1 John 5:14-15 (NKJV) tells us: Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
When you think God does not understand your situation, remember this:
- Hebrews 4:15 (NKJV) states: For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
When times are good, it is easy to hold on to what Scripture says about God. It is easy to have faith in God. But when we face a challenge, fear of the unknown has the potential to make us believe things about God that have no connection to the truth of what the Scripture says about God.
Deuteronomy 7:9 (NIV) declares: Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.
God is faithful. And despite the challenges we face, we must continue to hold on to the truth that God is faithful.
This is why it is so important to spend time reading and meditating on God’s Word. To spend time in prayer. This is how we know more about God.
John 15:5 (NIV) states: I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
We must accept that we are helpless without God. When we do, even during challenges, we push forward depending on God. We push forward having faith in God.
God can and wants to help us break free of barriers that hinder our faith in Him. In this moment, if you have some barriers that you want removed so you can have faith in God, that you can truly always trust God, perhaps consider praying the following:
- Father God, I want to have faith in you. But to have faith in You I need to get rid of barriers, whether it is pride, arrogance, self-centeredness, or whatever else it is within me that enables me or forces me to depend on myself and my abilities. I want to be fully dependent on You. I need to be fully dependent on you. Teach me, Father, how to place my hope and trust in You and You alone. Help me to know that I am helpless without You. Help me to know that I am nothing without You. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV) states: “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
