Oftentimes when I pray about a need, whether for myself or someone else, I get a settled peace. While I may not know how the situation will work out, I do know that God has a plan because:
- God loves us. 1 John 3:1 states: See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him (ESV).
- God cares for us. 1 Peter 5:7 states: Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you (NLT).
- God will never forsake us. Psalm 37:25 states: I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread (NIV).
I can admit, however, that there have been times when I was praying about a situation but yet I didn’t have a settled peace. The seriousness of what I faced, or what someone else faced, clouded my ability to hold on to the truth about God. As Mark 10:27 states in part: “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God” (ESV).
Rest assured that God knows all things. This means then, that God knows when the situations of life are pressing in on us and shaking our faith. God knows when the situations we face are pressing in on us and hindering our ability to discern His Will.
Romans 8:26 declares: Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words (ESV).
As believers, God has given us the Holy Spirit to help us. To empower us. As we are empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are equipped to endure through whatever situation comes our way. And as we are empowered by the Holy Spirit, we can persevere until God’s Will is done in our lives and in the lives of others.
